The number of elderly and disabled Americans is dramatically increasing. With this comes an increasing demand for a broader array of services in a variety of settings.
Assisted living is a long-term care service that fosters choice, dignity, independence and autonomy for our elderly across Ohio and the nation, while offering their families and caregivers peace of mind.
Assisted living residences, also called residential care facilities, play a crucial role in helping our nation's elders and people with disabilities enjoy a meaningful quality of life. Assisted living caregivers deliver personalized and loving care and services to residents who need some help with the day-to-day activities of life.
Built on the Turnaround Ohio initiatives, Ohio's 2007-08 budget focuses on long-term care by promoting consumer choice and a variety of services, which would not be possible without the vital contributions of assisted living residences.
The theme of National Assisted Living Week 2007 - "Legacies of Love" - highlights the privilege, value and responsibility of passing the legacies of our elders' lives down through the generations that care for them and love them.
FOR ALL OF THESE REASONS, I, TED STRICKLAND, Governor of the State of Ohio, proclaim the week of September 9-15, 2007 as Assisted Living Week in Ohio. I urge all citizens to visit friends and loved ones who reside at these facilities and also to learn more about assisted living services and how they benefit our communities.
On this 7th day of September, 2007;
Ted Strickland
Governor
