Strickland, Department of Aging Induct 2007 Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame
Thirteen Older Ohioans Honored for their Service and Achievements

COLUMBUS - Governor Ted Strickland, Barbara E. Riley, Director of the Ohio Department of Aging, and members of the Ohio General Assembly will honor the achievements of 13 exceptional seniors being inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame at the Statehouse Atrium in Columbus from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23.

"These honorees are an inspiration for all Ohioans as they actively serve their neighbors and their communities through volunteerism, education and leadership," Strickland said. "We salute their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others."

"Through their dedication, wisdom and compassion, the 2007 Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame members leave their mark on Ohio," said Riley. "This year's class of honorees includes teachers, administrators, nurses and volunteers who have worked to improve their communities and the lives of their neighbors. We are also honoring the oldest living American veteran," added Riley.

2007 Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame Inductees:

Since 1977, more than 300 individuals have been inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Native-born Ohioans or state residents for at least 10 years are nominated by individuals or organizations based on service to others and achievements after age 60 and for lifetime achievements that represent positive aging. Also being recognized are twelve individuals who will each receive an Elder Caregiving Award
