On March 2, 2007, the Ohio Department of Aging was a proud partner and sponsor of the first-ever Active Aging Festival during the annual Arnold Fitness EXPO in downtown Columbus. The Arnold EXPO, created by movie star and California Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger, celebrates sports and fitness as a way of staying active and healthy. The Active Aging Festival was a natural offshoot of that and expored ways older Americans can and do stay healthy through proper nutrition and exercise.
International fitness celebrities Jack and Elaine LaLanne headlined the event with a positive message of personal responsibility and accomplishment. Featured speakers throughout the day discussed innovative new approaches to healthy aging. Festival goers were also treated to high-energy group exercise and dance sessions and more.
Festival sponsors included the Ohio Department of Aging, the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Ohio Senior Olympics, World Gym, Raisin Rack, McConnell Heart Health and Mt. Carmel.
